For this new groupshow Galerie VIVID brings together one big sculpture 'Flesh to Flesh' by Hulya Yilmas, 9 textile works ' Woven Grids' by Sigrid Calon and 4 pastel drawings by Maike Hemmers

Hulya Yilmaz (1963, b. Adana, Turkey)
Nature is always the starting point in the work of Yilmaz. The elements earth, water, air and wind are recurring topics. 'Flesh to Flesh' comes from a period Yilmaz was working with the topic air, shaping air. Air around us, between us and within us. She cannot get satisfaction from working towards reality, because she does not believe in objective reality. And knowing that everything is in reality with ourselves, she colors it with the present. Because of her fascination with nature, she puts elements in her work that you can always find in nature.
Yilmas does not want to pre-chew everything. The viewer has the freedom to see everything or not. You are, as it were, invited to look, walk around and fill in the blanks yourself.
'Flesh to Flesh' was made in 1994. It has rare moments of figuration: a crocodile in an inflatable version. Yilmaz first recreated a larger crocodile size in clay... and then made molds from them to use for this sculpture. Meatier than meat, it gets under your skin.
"A beast of a statue" (quote Hein van Haaren) and with a big nod to contemporary sculpture!

Sigrid Calon (1969 b. Den Bosch) navigates between autonomous and applied art. Characteristic for Calon are intuition, ratio and playfulness. She is searching for wonder and gets inspiration out of the everyday things that surround her. As an autonomous artist she follows her curious mind, experimenting with materials and printing techniques while exploring the DNA of her own visual language. A milestone of this journey was her fateful encounter with the Risograph. Legend has it that from the very first moment, she couldn’t get her hands off this machine.

Her first book 'To the Extend of / \ | & –' made with the Risograph in 2012 constisted of 120 'compositions’, in which she was seeking a balance between colour, shape and clarity. Calon is looking for the essence and is developing an own and recognisable style, a visual language, in which she plays with shape and colour within the grid or framework. In this way, she investigates the possibilities of ‘intuitive communication’.
Although the book is an autonomous work, Calon has seen it as a research project. An exploration into a new visual realm expressing the world through her own eyes. In recent years she has been able to investigate whether to use this visual language in other ways, on different scales, on different materials, in different media

Maike Hemmers (1987, Germany) develops spirited connections through colorful, fuzzy and abstract pastel drawings, textile sculptures and workshops. Art becomes an extension of emergent, bodily signals through a transmission of sensual experiences. For that she researchs and uses somatic practices that observe the body and mind as whole, to understand and depict how affects and relationships move through us. Those notions get activated in the working methodology, the formal expression in material, as well as engagements that happen with a public like workshops. Maike Hemmers has received her MFA in 2017 at the Dutch Art Institute (NL). Her work has been shown at Kunstinstituut Melly (NL), Tent (NL), Milieu (CH), Firstdraft (AUS) among many others. Some of Hemmers' writing can be found online at Nero Editions and The Site Magazine.
