Galerie VIVID
In the centre of Rotterdam, 25 years ago, Saskia Copper and Aad Krol started Galerie VIVID.
With 140 exhibitions and 50 fairs, VIVID tells an unique story. It was one of the first to show contemporary design and contemporary art side by side. The exhibitions provide a platform for important contemporary artists and designers. Also artists and designers from the 20th century, who played an important role and whose work is still relevant today, are presented at VIVID. It organised, among other things, two Rietveld retrospectives, a Bauhaus exhibition in 2019 and recently a major Interbellum 1919-1939 overview. VIVID has been participating fairs for more than 15 years.
After 2019, partly due to the changing situation in the world, VIVID's focus has shifted more towards Art. VIVID still distinguishes itself by showing that there is an area in art and design that overlaps these two disciplines. This intermediate area has been VIVID's focus for 25 years now and will continue to do so in the future.

Timo de Rijk, director Desigmuseum Den Bosch
"Dear Aad and Saskia, what a special day, a quarter of a century of Vivid, the beginning of which I remember so well, Kho Liang ie, Joe Colombo, of course my first interest was in the striking programming of historical subjects and designers. But you soon trained me in the developments of a new design generation, from Jan Broekstra to Studio Job, from Richard Hutten to Fabricca. You may have learned something from me, but I certainly learned a lot from you. Your initiative was not only embraced in Rotterdam, but soon also in Eindhoven and Amsterdam, and - I think to the surprise and admiration of many - also in Cologne, Basel, Milan and New York. The entire design world was impressed, because of the exciting programming, but also how much it was felt that Vivid took design and designers seriously. The young people hoped for a solo exhibition, the newly arrived guard - Crouwel, van Toorn - enjoyed seeing the fantastic programming in the field of design and participated with equal enthusiasm in Vivid and became his/her ambassador.
I still see Wim Crouwel entering the William Boothlaan in the storm, I think for a Fabricca exhibition, the storm had forced the designers to fly via Brussels, and together with 'Earl Grey' and the Italians we celebrated the presentation with a very small group . Since I started working in a museum, I know more than ever that all the attention goes to the exhibitions. But I know even better that no one makes it alone. All success is teamwork, the organization, the admin, the support at home, even a board or supervisory board is indispensable. That's why Aad and Saskia, Saskia and Aad, I would like to raise a glass to your success, strong together, and I suspect: 'we ain't seen nothing yet.'
