Emmanuel Babled

May 10 - July 5, 2015

opening May 10, 4 pm

Galerie VIVID is proud to present the first solo exhibition in the Netherlands of Emmanuel Babled. The famous French/Italian designer, based in Amsterdam started his studio in Milan in 1995. Working for more then 15 years in Italy he became one of the few artists that saw new possibilities in the long tradition of Italian Glass and Marble.
The new Librastone low tables, presented at VIVID, are a perfect exemple of this creative craftsmanship. Made in Italy in white Carrara marble this table is resting on a curved base, balancing on one point . the Librastone’s gravity point of this object is manipulated through the use of algorithmic software. This allows the table’s top to obtain a perfectly horizontal surface.

Born in France in 1967, Emmanuel Babled graduated in industrial design from the European Institute of design in Milan at the age of 22. Apart from holding a number of solo exhibitions throughout Europe, Asia and North America, Babled was also in charge of exhibitions such as Fusion (Milan, 1999), Sputnik (Milano, 2000), Smash (Milan, New York, Paris, London, Tokyo, 2001).
Since 2001 he has been collaborating with the Domus Academy in Italy and Eindhoven's Design Academy as visiting professor.
Emmanuel designs products for a number of international companies including Baccarat, Rosenthal, Venini, Bulgari, Ittala, Dupont de Nemours, Fontana Arte, Oluce, I&I, Laurent Perrier, Waterford Crystal, Felice Rossi, Henge, Covo, Giannini, Idee Co Ltd, Marzoretti Ronchetti, Viceversa, Vistosi among many others.
Besides the Librastone tables, two in white Cararra marble and one in Canadian brown stone, Galerie VIVID is showing several vases, new and old, made in the best glass ateliers of Murano.
The stunning walnut cabinet, called 'Arcana' completes this unique exhibition that runs through July 5 in Rotterdam.
